O conto Macabéa, flor de mulungu, de Conceição Evaristo, apresenta uma releitura crítica e poética da personagem Macabéa, criada originalmente por Clarice Lispector em A hora da estrela. Enquanto Lispector retrata Macabéa como uma mulher apagada, submissa e trágica, Evaristo propõe um resgate simbólico e político dessa figura feminina, transformando-a em emblema de resistência, ancestralidade e poder feminino. Ao associá-la à flor do mulungu — árvore típica do cerrado e da caatinga, conhecida por sua capacidade de resistência e renascimento — a autora reposiciona Macabéa como uma mulher que, apesar das violências estruturais e históricas sofridas, carrega em si a força da sobrevivência e da renovação. Na perspectiva de Conceição Evaristo, Macabéa não é mais apenas uma vítima silenciada pelas estruturas patriarcais e racistas. Ela se torna parteira, curadora e cerzideira, guardiã de saberes ancestrais e das memórias de seu povo. O conto, permeado por uma linguagem poética e metafórica, incorpora elementos da oralidade, da cultura afro-brasileira e da sabedoria popular, características marcantes da escrita de Evaristo.
